A patent is a form of intellectual property right (IPR) which gives its owner the right to exclude others from making, using, selling, and importing & exporting his/her invention/work. Basically a patent is a grant of protection for an invention by the applicant.

There are three kinds of patents: (i) Design Patents (ii) Utility Patents (iii) Technology Patents.

For granting the patent the invention must be a “new and useful” in terms of process, machine, manufacture or product.
